so we finally played our first show as cavashawn last night in cincinnati. IT WAS AMAZING. seriously. it was amazing. it was by far the best experience of 2008 for me, hands down.
the past 6 months have been crazy for us. we left pretty much everyone we knew and moved to a large unfamiliar city in a sketchy (but cheap) neighborhood. we moved away from our families and friends to give our careers as musicians a fighting chance to actually go somewhere.
its pretty clear our band has been through a lot of growing pains recently. we went through 3 different names in the past 2 months and lost a guitar player (even if it was on the best of terms). its been a pretty emotional time for our band and we've had our fair share of of frustration and confusion.
nobody in our band is making very much money right now. working on the EP and rehearsing/traveling to shows has made it difficult for the band to make money and for us to get decent jobs. we're broke - we eat imitation brand pasta-roni for dinner and peanut butter sandwiches for lunch. most nights, since its expensive as hell to go out in the city, we drink cheap beer and play mario-kart. (which is actually really fun) .
don't get me wrong, i LOVE what we're doing. i guess what i'm saying is that playing last night utterly and completely justified and vindicated any crappy time we've had over the past 6 months. when you're dedicating your life to your music and your band, its extremely scary to do things like change your name, change members, and borrow thousands of dollars /take out credit cards in order to record your music, no matter how much you believe in it.
last night made EVERYTHING worth it. it was phenomenal.
it was PACKED at the poison room, and i've never heard so many people singing along to our songs - not just maidson or hey hey hey - but every single song - it was incredible. there was an energy in the room that was just fantastic. there were old fans and new fans singing along, obviously there because they loved the music. it really meant the world to us, and i know i speak for everyone in our band when i say nothing could be more fulfilling. it was spectacular. thank you thank you thank you.

so we drove into ohio last night and left this afternoon. we now are back in chicago. when we drive we like to listen to albums in the van together.
here's what we listened to on this trip:
red hot chili peppers - stadium arcadium (2x, once on the way down, once on the way up)
elton john - goodbye yellow brick road
motion city soundtrack - even if it kills me
sting - ten summoner's tales
mute math - self-titled
I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL WE GET TO PLAY AGAIN NEXT WEEKEND IN CHICAGO!

Glad the show helped you guys feel vindicated for it all. Best of luck and I think the album selection for the trip is terrific... Mute Math is killer live and I dig that CD.
